STARS ON STAGE
A performance and learning opportunity for students with developmental disabilities
Stars on Stage is a program using theatre as a way to collaborate in mixed-ability groups, acting as a bridge between children with special needs and others in their peer group to put on a fully staged theatre production. Everyone deserves access to the arts. We work to provide an environment that enables students with developmental disabilities and student peers to work together to develop trust and friendships. Together we create a community, brought together via the arts, to foster a culture of acceptance that lasts a lifetime
Over the past five seasons, we’ve brought unforgettable productions to life with these extraordinary kids – Seussical Kids, The Lion King Kids, The Wizard of Oz: Youth Edition, Shrek The Musical, JR and Disney’s The Little Mermaid, JR.
Stay Tuned for the Upcoming Season! Once the 26-27 school year is underway, this page will be your go-to resource for registration and key details. Whether you're signing up as an Artist or a Peer, you'll find everything you need right here. We can't wait for you to be part of something incredible!
Participants:
Star Artists with Disabilities
Students with disabilities in grades 5-12. The Artist must be a current BAPS student. There are no restrictions based on the level of cognitive ability, restriction of mobility, or lack of communication skills. Artists and their paired mentors need only a desire for artistic expression and a commitment to exploring their creative abilities.
Star Peers
We are looking for peers in grades 5-12 who are dedicated youth without disabilities and committed to learning and helping through collaboration. Star Peers learn the Star Artist’s lines, music, and choreography so they can assist throughout rehearsals and even onstage during productions. Star Peers will be costumed to mirror their Stars and will assist them as needed.
When do rehearsals start?
TBD after the 2026-2027 school year begins.
